Design Statement: This is not a work about a machine. Rather, it is about people, in complex interaction within a sociological system. The machine does not drive the action, but the decisions that man makes in the aftermath. Thus I rejected the traditional metaphor of the machine, opting instead to depict a tangle of waste and mayhem that comes too often from the creations of man. The tangle comes in contrast to an otherwise formal, rigid, and sterile space. It is between these worlds that Zero finds himself.
